Mobile World Congress

In it to win it: The ultimate guide to MWC Barcelona’s Global Mobile Awards

No Mobile World Congress is complete without its prestigious Global Mobile Awards (GLOMOs) ceremony. Each year, companies big and small, are celebrated for their innovations across the mobile ecosystem. MWC 2025 will be no different, but with prestige comes much competition. So, how can mobile vendors and operators make the most of these awards? What goes into making the shortlist? And how can you maximise your chances of winning?

1. Data and metrics are king

If you’re a pro at writing award submissions, you’ll know how important data and metrics are in making your entry stand out from the crowd. If I had a pound for the number of entries I’ve seen that omitted any numbers, stats, or data of any kind, let’s just say I’d be halfway to a life in the Maldives.

A powerful entry needs to be able to demonstrate tangible proof of success: how many customers are using your product? What difference has it made to your customers—has it resulted in new efficiencies, or increase productivity? Has your product facilitated new revenue opportunities?

Being able to provide strong numbers that really reinforce your entry will stand you in good stead with the judges reviewing your submission.

2. Relationship building can go a long way

While trying to suss out who the judges are in order to influence them is unethical, and could see you disqualified, it’s not a bad idea to think about arranging a series of briefings highlighting the products and solutions you’re entering with your key analysts in the months leading up to entries and selection.

The judging panel, while undisclosed, is typically made up of analysts, independent from vendor or telco companies. A strategic analyst relations programme will identify the top analysts in your solution area, and while they may not all be a GLOMOs judge, there is likelihood that some will be or that they work closely with colleagues on the judging panel. Cultivating relationships with these analysts can go a long way to showcase a product or innovation. And, even if it doesn’t pay off at the GLOMOs with an award, it’s never a bad thing to be front of mind among your most influential analyst targets.

3. Don’t forget to tell a story

Perhaps most importantly, all submissions need to be able to tell a story. Judges have hundreds of submissions to go through so think about making yours interesting, and clearly laid out. This will avoid judges losing the thread of your story, or having to re-read your entry several times to understand what it is you’re putting forward.

Don’t get too in the weeds with the technology, losing your story to acronyms and industry jargon. Think instead about the most impactful data points your company or product is delivering, and to what end. This will hopefully make for an engaging entry, backed up by metrics, and that is interesting to read for judges.
