Challenge
As an R&D company, InterDigital is committed to the development of cutting-edge technology that will enable new connected and immersive experiences. Often, it is developing technologies 10 to 15 years ahead of market adoption. As such, it can be difficult to create excitement for technologies that will not deliver value for years to come.
Furthermore, InterDigital develops underlying technologies that enable “bigger” technology innovations—for example, it is currently developing sensing technology that will support 6G. As such, InterDigital sits in the background, which means it can be difficult to showcase why the development of these enabling technologies is critical.
Finally, because InterDigital licenses its technology innovations, it has to maintain the perception that it is more than a licensor of underlying technologies.
Solution
CCGroup has worked with InterDigital to develop an integrated communications programme that is focused on education. This education takes two forms: educating the wider market and industries in which InterDigital operates, and educating key industry influencers.
- Campaigns and reports: Campaigns focused on a leading technology areas to educate the wider market on InterDigital’s role, its importance, and the impact its technologies will have in years to come. In 2024, we supported campaigns focused on 5G advanced to 6G as well as haptics technology.
- Events: Speaking slots at prestigious industry events, including Mobile World Congress Barcelona, Mobile World Congress Las Vegas and IBC.
- Demonstrations: Visibly showcasing technologies so that influencers can “see” InterDigital’s technology innovations. In 2024, InterDigital hosted demo events at its office, as well as at industry shows.
- Regular influencer briefings: Regularly engaging with media and analyst influencers to educate them on technology development and capabilities.
